Body & Wheel Technician

Customer Service. Live customers come before everything else.

Reporting to the vehicle prep centre supervisor the role of a Body & Wheel Technician, to carry out repair work efficiently and competently to the company and manufacturers standards in order to achieve customer satisfaction. The job will focus particularly on the accurate first-time repairs on the vehicles.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Accurately and skillfully undertake the preparation and repainting of vehicles via repair orders, within a responsible time. Must work to first time fix principles and aware of responsibility to rectify poor workmanship.

  • Must be aware of and comply with legal aspects relating both to maintenance and repair of motor vehicles plus Health and Safety at work.

  • Work to the highest quality standards expected, including the approach to and execution of work, tidiness or working area and care in the handling of all vehicles, equipment and technical information systems. Ensure equipment is maintained and kept clean and tidy.

  • Support and promote the concept of customer satisfaction.

  • Ensure quality of work undertaken by trainees under supervision meet the highest manufacturers standards.

  • Carry out repair work, as directed.

  • Record work done, time taken and report any additional damage found when preparing the vehicle directly to supervisor/manager.

  • Carry out warranty repairs as directed, returning displaced material to correct location and in correct condition.

  • Use all paint mixing schemes and drying areas/equipment accurately for all paint repairs.

    • Attend training activities (in dealer or manufacturer) as directed, to gain new knowledge and skills and also to ensure knowledge is up to date to meet with latest developments.

  • As a Body & Wheel technician act as an advisor on repair matters to both colleagues and customers as necessary.

  • To make full use of special tools and equipment to improve customer service levels and efficiency.

  • Safeguard vehicles and its contents while in the workshop.

  • To deliver and collect items as requested by manager.

  • Personal appearance should be in accordance with company policy.

  • All customers should be treated in a polite and courteous manner in accordance with company policy.

  • Undertake all other task and activities as requested by your supervisor and/or manager.

  • To comply with all the quality standards agreed within the dealership and to have personal responsibility for the application of dealership policy and procedures.

  • Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.

  • Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.

  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.

EXPERIENCE

• One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications

Valid Driver's License
