Business and Fleet: BEVs

The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is no longer a future ambition, it is now a commercial necessity for businesses across London. Rising fuel costs, sustainability targets, government incentives, and evolving employee expectations are driving organisations to rethink their company car and fleet strategies. For businesses looking to reduce operating costs while improving employee benefits and environmental performance, electric vehicles offer a compelling solution.

THE RISE OF BMW ELECTRIC FLEET ADOPTION.

UK fleets are increasingly adopting BMW EVs as part of their fleet operations due to long-term operational benefits. BMW EVs can potentially deliver lower running costs, although actual savings depend on factors like charging habits, electricity prices, and vehicle usage. Fleet electrification is especially impactful for high-mileage sectors such as logistics, field sales, professional services, and corporate travel. BMW electric vehicles are increasingly common within UK corporate fleets thanks to the strong range and performance. For example, the BMW iX3 sets new standards for fully electric vehicles, offering an impressive range of up to 500 miles on a full battery†.

COMPANY CAR TAX BENEFITS.

One of the strongest incentives for businesses and employees to switch to EVs is the attractive company car tax structure in the UK. Electric vehicles currently benefit from signigicant lower Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rates compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. Full electric company cars can enjoy BiK rates at 4% (subject to change)*

SALARY SACRIFICE SCHEMES.

Salary sacrifice schemes have become one of the fatest-growing methods for businesses to support EV adoption. Under these schemes, employees exchange part of their gross salary in return for an electric vehicle lease, often including insurance, servicing and maintenance.

The key advantage is that payments are deducted before income tax and national insurance, reducing the employee's taxable income. Combined with low BiK rates, salary sacrifice allows employees to access electrical vehicles at significantly reduced monthly costs.

For employees, salary sacrifice schemes can: improve employee retention and recruitment, support sustainability initiatives, reduce employer national insurance costs, and increase access to electric vehicles.

Many organisations now view EV salary sacrifice programmes as a strategic employee benefit rather than simply a transport solution.
